Great on Pommel Horse
I must say I felt the pain for him when he landed really bad on the mat when he was dismounting from the rings. I was like OMG because he landed really bad and possibly whiplash. People have been complaining about the rings during the Olympics. Eek, but other that disaster of a fall, he managed to get 4th place in the overall all-around men’s competition. That is still good! He only missed 3rd place by 0.175 points. Man, that’s harsh.

Eek
He must have felt alot of pain. I felt so bad for him because I can see him being so determined to win and his chance was lost with this bad fall. He fell in his practice vault after this rings. During his real vault run, he landed pretty straight on his knees which is really bad because he did not even bend them. Gosh, gymnasts take a big beating to their body for their choices in life. I’m not too sure if I would have been that type of tough cookie. But he did managed to finish after a bad fall. So I do give him alot of applaud and I cheered him on.

Falling hard
He is the leader of the Japanese gymnastics team. He really has great form and consistency. I want to say he can come back next time, but he is much older than his teammates. He is 27 so he may not be able to come back in 2012 Olympics. But I had fun watching him throughout these few days of competition. He always wowed me with his spectacular performance and was one of the most consistent Japanese gymnasts. Must I also say, DAMN good-looking!
He did win Gold during 2004 Athens and won silver during 2008 Beijing. That is a very big accomplishment! No matter what, I still cheered him on. I’m gonna make an attempt to find videos on him because NBC did not show screen time of him after the vault. I was quite disappointed in that.
-updated 8/16/08: new pictures because he really looks hot in this one

He has good face structure!

Even though this is the fall, I can see a bit of an expression on him.

It shows how much body fat Tomita has on him. It’s not much I dont think. But he does have a very nice body I must say. Well I tried to embed it into the post. But nothing work. I dont know what they’re saying. But must I say anymore when I see a hot body like that. He’s pretty ripped
So just click on link.
There is a video on NBC Olympics of his fall.
I also admire Hiroyuki Tomita! It’s too bad he fell
( But I hope he knows that people still love and cheer him, because he looked really sad after that!
I wish we could see him in 2012, because if he retires I’m gonna miss him a love!
And I also think he is very handsome! I wonder if he’s married

I saw him today at the plummel horse final. He was absolutely amazing.. and elegant (like always)
I don’t understand how his scores was lower than of yang wei’s. god damn it.
As usual, he looks good today.
HE knows for a fact that yang wei is sloppy.. that’s why he never congratulates or clap for yang wei.
let’s cheer for him for the horizontal bar finals!!
ezan

he is the hottest thing alive!!!!!! he should’ve got gold!!!!!!! i luv u!!!!!!!!!!!
omg! hiroyuki is just too hot!!! a great gymnast as well!!
I luv him at first seen!!! I stuck him everyday.
noticed him during the indiv! i find that’s he’s wayyyy better than yangwei for pommel horse finals anyway! the score should’ve been higher!
and yah, i felt damn sad for his fall. i think he would’ve beaten yangwei if not for the fall. ]:
but, he’s still the best!
too hot to resist too.
GO TOMITA!
Tomorrow, I will cheer him for the horizontal bar final and I hope him obtain gold, silver or bronze

it was really pity that he didn’t get a single medal for the individual events….esp the horizontal bar…everything was so nicely done except the dismount…..
but at least he together with his teammates helped Japan to get a silver….not that bad (though they got gold in the Athens 2004……)
all the best to him!!!
I agree. There’s always the world championships. The thing is Tomita has always been hot and cold.
On good days he can be absolutely excellent. But on his off days.. he can be annoyingly terrible.
But do you guys agree with me that Tomita will never shake hands with Yang Wei what more stand up to clap.
Cute rivalry.
I recently found out about Tomita’s martial status. And.
HE’S NOT MARRIED!!!!
But…he’s all mine. Hehe.
But about him reappearing in 2012. Very unlikely, there are no Olympic gymnast above the age of 29 currently in competition. But Ms.Torres of the Olympic swimming team is in her 40′s so there might be a small chance of him reappearing in 2012. Lets all keep our fingers crossed becaise I really want to see him. Maybe we will see him in other World Championships before he hits the big 3-0!
i dun think we’ll be seeing him in 2012. But that’s fair cuz, he HAS won an olympic gold, was once a winner at the world championship and team leader for 2008.
I think he’s had his fair share of the glitz and glamour of gymnastics.
I bet he would be a great coach.
can anyone tell me.. what is his occupation?
I know he works for the Juntendo University.
Sadly, all the mens artistic gymnastics are over. But I’m sure we’ll see him at the closing ceremony. Because he won silver in the team.
Also…since I don’t live in Japan where he’s a big star. I’m afraid American girls won’t see much about him. Unless like Seventeen or something recognizes him for the truly sexy man he is.
I’m so sad the Olympics are ending but surely we could see him in the World Championships to redeem himself. IF SOMEONE WOULD JUST TELL ME THE DATE.
And if possible is there like a whole DVD of Olympic coverage. Non-stop, no commercials, and covering everyone who was there in the sport. And I guess some Olympic commentary would be proper.
I’ll just miss him so much. And surely he will be returning as a couch someday…keeping up his looks as well as talent in the future training new athletes…probably not nearly as sexy or graceful.
oops coach i meant…didn’t catch that one!
Thats great! By that time he’ll only be 28 so he might have a chance at competition there one more time! Keep your fingers crossed. I’m so sad the Olympics are ending. But I did find out that the do sell Olympic DVDs of the highlights so I’m sure the might have him in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and that they will definitely have his 2004 golden win in Athens. Just search Olympic DVDs on yahoo.com and nbcolympics.com
Well where was it this year (2008)? And what channel might it be on? I.E. ESPN, NBC, channels like that.
They don’t sell 2004 DVDs of Olympics after the year they aired. But I’m sure some how we’ve got to have some record of the Olympics to watch over and over again. I just mad that this was the best Olympics and in the US they were hard to see or even tape because of the massive time difference.
Contact me about the Olympics, Tomita (especially if he’s returning or not), and the World Championships at justmefrani@yahoo.com!!
Dear all,
Tomita and Japan Team came back to Japan on 21st August 2008.
Tomita commented in the press interview that he is really exhausted both physically and mentally and that he would think about his career going forward after he takes enough rest.
Just for your information, you could post your comments on the official blog of Japan Gymnastic Association even though it is in Japanese.
http://www.plus-blog.sportsnavi.com/jpngym/article/71#comment
Already more than 500 comments have been posted, most of which are addressed to Tomita.
Tomita and his teammates would be happy to see the foreign supporters’ comments, too( maybe in English would be better ).
Dear madisonlane,
Your handle name is mandatory on “名前” ( 1st column ).
2nd column could be modified for the title of your message.
Maybe this blog would not accept the comments only in English, so please just paste ” 冨田選手へ “( means “To Tomita” ) at the beginning.
After you complete the message, click “確認” button to submit for validation.
If your comments are validated, you will see 5 alphabets slightly distorted.
Then input these alphabets correctly on the column just below and press “投稿” button finally.
Dear anagulica,
As I mentioned in the previous:
Maybe this blog would not accept the comments only in English, so please just paste ” 冨田選手へ “( means “To Tomita” ) at the beginning.
If you paste ” 冨田選手へ ” at the beginning of your message, it would be more likely to be accepted.
Please try and if it is successful for validation, you can follow my instructions to the end.
Congratulations, anagulica.
I also read your 2 messages on the blog.
I was also suprised you are from Moldova.
In fact, Tomita seems to have his admirers all over the world that would certainly cheer him up.
I think that he is definitely coming back in 2012 to redeem him self maybe not in the Gymnast Championships, maybe to skip that and train a return as a SUPER-veteran in the Olympics.
Dear anagulica and madisonlane,
Tomita and his teammates certainly know the existence of this blog.
They could read the comments even during the Olympics and still can do if they like.
I am sure Tomita has and will read all the comments addressed to him.
I really hope these comments will cheer him up and lead him to continue his career as an athlete.
All the fans are looking forward to seeing his beautiful performance again in the competitions !
I followed the given directions and my comment posted. I’m very sad to see the Olympics go. But my heart is weakened even more to see Hiroyuki Tomita so sad. He was cheated out of a medal by .125 of a point! And was the true champion in my eyes.
I also think he would be very happy to see all the support his fans have given him. So please, lets keep our eyes open for him in 2012. But don’t keep your hopes up because I’m not sure. I’m almost positive he wouldn’t want to disappoint his fans, though.
Hiroyuki Tomita rules the gymnastics world no matter what may happen.
Dear Francine,
I also read your comments on the blog.
Congratulations !
I am almost certain that Tomita has or will read all the messages in favour of him even though the comments are written in English( he has a master degree, anyway ).
All the comments coming from Madisonlane’s blog are really nice to read, and not only Tomita but also I are very happy to get to know there are so many admires of him all over the world !
Thank you for reading my comment on the Japanese blog. I’m rather proud of it too! Hehe.
I also get Google Updates on him (I’m not a junkie, just a nerd, lol!)
And they said that he ignored everything that his Chinese opponents did, maybe he knows that they are good competition. But to me (Francine) they’re still not as good as Tomita.
And I also saw the closing ceremony with Beckham. Boy did those volunteers jump for the ball. I really didn’t understand the closing ceremony with the bus thing. But thats okay…I guess its just a British thing with all that they did.
I’m sure that with ALL of our support Tomita MIGHT return in 2012 but I’m sad to say that it might be his last…35 year olds these days (thats how old he’ll be in 2016…after the next Olympics). But who knows, there are like 40 year old decathlon members. And that is almost the hardest Olympic trial. I’m not trying to say theres not a chance in hell he’s not coming back I’m just trying to keep my hopes at a normal level for him. But who can? He’s frickin’ amazing!
I went back to read my comment and I couldn’t find it. Can someone tell what part of the page its on?
Yeah I noticed everyone else’s comment’s and I was like; “where’s mine?”. Still you guys, I really appreciate the congrats and compliments about my comment…was it really THAT well written?
Still. I think we all need to look at the fact that Tomita might have a different philosophy on ‘redemption’ even though I brought it up.
Maybe with in a few years (next Olympics) he will return triumphantly but I didn’t mean to get anyone’s hopes up…like I’ve been trying to get mine. Right now…I feel the same way when Tomita fell, when I think of him, not, coming back. I think I need some cheering up! LOL.
Thanks anagulica…and I read some of your blog too, by the way.
Guys!!!!!!
!
Based on Ana Gulica’s Blog:
Okay seriously…the way I blog on here looks like I have no life. But I do…seriously. Its just that everything I’ve been doing over the summer is over. Just so you know…I’m younger so I was out of school. I’m over half of Tomita’s age…so you know I’m waaaaay younger and mature for my ‘young’ (?) age.
Now that, that (?) is out of the way…I’d like to get to the point. After reading some of Ana Gulica’s blog summary’s I saw the one about Tomita and Kohei (I think) returning. If you look deep into the summary in the yes or no section it says that Tomita’s NOT giving up if he still enjoys his sport after 4 years. He also said (not in the video) that he sees deep with in the beauty of the sport. And that 4 years is a long time to ask, but I think with some practice and maybe some endurance training he’d be the best again. (Not that he wasn’t in this Olympics…just not HIS BEST)
Okay. But seriously this time I’m trying not to get my hopes up toooo far. But NOW after reading Ana Gulica’s blog I’m pretty happy about it. I did forget who he said he’d be giving up the medal for if he didn’t return but…I think it was one of the Chinese competitors of Kohei (don’t know how to spell his last name…not nearly as important to me). Thanks!!!!!!
Well, yeah of course they’re low. But did you put your’s in a Japanese translator or something?
Also…maybe they will read the ones that stand out to them? IDK? The chance is low on everything practically one in a million…so I guess, that its not silly…I was just wondering. How’s he going read it?
Who knows if he even can read English? But hey…I guess they have English-Spanish-Japanese translators online too.
And plus…Kohei Uchimura is not nearly as cute…but hey, if thats THEIR taste. Then whatever.
Just tell me if I works, because if it does…next comment I’m putting in my email! LOL!
okay just so you know iGoogle translator is the best!
You know how when you enter Tomita’s name is the Japanese symbols….it shows (symbol)rice field(symbol)
Well on iGoogle it shows HIS actual name! Try it!
Dear anagulica and Francine,
I guess you are both quite young girls from the chatting above.
You also mention the script of Japanese sport TV program in which Tomita and Uchimura were interviewed after coming back home.
Yes, Tomita raised “Yes” for the question “Japan Team will win Gold medal in the London Olympics 2012.
However, he later commented that his younger teammates would win Gold…I was shocked again to hear that.
I suppose Tomita is basically very calm and well determined, so he might not be much influenced by the other people’s opinions.
Then, when he decides something, it will be the final answer for him.
On the other hand, I am quite sure that he has or will read all the comments addressed to Tomita even if they are written in English while it looks nearly unrealistic that he writes back to your comment individually.
Meanwhile, some special exhibitions are scheduled from the end of September to November in Japan where the members of National Team will perform some gymnastics.
I will let you know if the details of the participants are released.
Well…like I said…its not my place to say what someone else would do. I just didn’t want to change anyone’s hopes. And also I do realize that our opinions aren’t going to change his.
Also like I said before…we should look at HIS philosophy of redemption, training, and everything else that we as humans might look at.
But what I thought when they said the his younger teammates would win gold…I looked at it in a ‘team’ sort of way. Just like Tomita won Silver with all of his teammates as well.
Yeah, just like anagulica said, I’d just be happy if he read it and knew how many people find him amazing.
Well, thanks. Not that I had guts or anything. It just didn’t feel like I got my point across the first time. I’m just really excited to see any signs or updates that he’ll be back for sure. All injuries Team Japan may get aside…I just want to know who’s coming back (based on the present condition of the gymnast 2008) in 2012.
Yes! Seriously…I’m just trying to find something to do with my free time now that I’m done with about 7 years of ballet. Odd enough I wanted to do gymnastics but something happened where I didn’t end up doing it. Now its a bit late for me to start gymnastics but I’m hoping that with my flexible background and stuff that I can find another sport or something that I exert energy.
Who knows? But maybe that will take up some of my time so I’m not so-so worried about Tomita ALL the time. I’ll still check up on this blog because its so interesting to see how many fans he does have and how devoted they are.
I’m hoping that I can go to the 2012 Olympics live and see Tomita there. Please, please, please. Oh and Olympic director or president or Whatever has reviewed the paper work of those Chinese Female Gymnast and apparently they did qualify to compete (being that they were 16 or going to be 16 at the end of the 2008 Olympic year).
So whatev- keep me posted.
OMG!!
Somewhere like on youtube.com there’s a rumor circulating that Tomita has girlfriend! Damn it. I don’t know if it’s true.
But on one of the comments under that “You’re Amazing” video thingy some said rumor has it he has a GF! You can get a link to that vid- on Ana Gulica’s page.
I can see if he does, he’s frickin’ sexy….
Damn I’m pissed.
Yeah, I totally agree. It just that with him being so driven into the sport and art of gymnastics I don’t see how he could make anymore time. But I guess with him now relaxing he’d have more time with whatever he’s trying to do.
Also I know Yang Wei has a girlfriend but she’s a reporter so they’re always together. Plus he’s like going on 29-lol, not that much older eh?-so he needs one. And he’s retiring.
Anyways, the points is I was just completely shocked…and sort of happy to. In a way. But I can see him with a girl. Just not a gymnast…I was looking on a site where they had ALL gymnast and some of them, well. Let’s just say they’re a bit ‘facially challenged’.
I just realized. He’s shorter than me.
5’5″ I’m 5′&7″
2 Inches doesn’t seem like much…But it really is. I don’t even think of myself as tall. Hmmmm.
Any updates?
Actually, this isn’t really news its just something I’d like everyone to take in.
I’ve seen a lot of blogs because i get updates and I saw Ana Gulica’s blog with the e-mail.
Also…I saw another girl from Singapore who love Hiroyuki Tomita or ‘adores’ him. But she was just saying that she’s sad that he’s not coming back. IDK if thats some Asian reporter-news gossip or just an assumption because of age.
I know for a fact the Yang Wei is retiring for good. So maybe if Tomita is coming back for sure, that he will not have much competition that can actually stand up to his level…so I’m happy about that. Thats all I know so far.
Olympics…Video Game?
Even though I’m a Sims 2 Freak…I saw a promo about Olympics but in video game form….
I had a dream about Tomita competing again and winning gold (which should have happened anyways)….is this weird or is it just me….
This is an interview from Hiroyuki Tomita…I think its pretty recent…but translators don’t really do a good job in translation. I know some of you know some Japanese…or MATHILDE who I guess is Japanese…I guess. But can someone translate and send me an email of the summary at justmefrani@yahoo.com ? Thanks!
Thanks!
I’m sure the site that I got this from has a more recent interview…
Still, I’d like to know what it says.
Dear all,
I have read anagulica and Francine’s comments above concerning the translation.
Yes, I am in fact Japanese.
However, I regret to inform you that the interview to Tomita mentioned above is too long( the full version is even much longer ) for me to translate into Japanese. I do not have spare time to spend for translation since I have a full-time job.
I hope you could find someone around you who understands Japanese easily.
Meanwhile, I have got a big news about Tomita.
According to the press release today, Tomita commented that Toyota International Gymnastic Competition held in Toyota( Near Nagoya ) in November this year would be the 1st entry for him after Beijing Olympics.
Isn’t it very nice?
Oh, I wasn’t asking for the whole thing in English…just for someone to read it through a give me a little summary or something-just skim it.
Also…the great new MATHILDE gave cheered me up alot…I went shoe shopping today, didn’t find much, nuff said.
Do you know when the date is?
Dear all,
Toyota International Gymnastic Competition will be held on 15 and 16 Nov. 2008.
The details have not been released.
The tickets have not been on sale, either.
Once the official site is open, I will let you know.
Hello,I‘m a woman from Japan and I
surprised Hiroyuki Tomita is adored
all over the world! In japan Kohei
Uchimura is more popular with Japan
ese massmedia than Tomita now.But T
omita is respected and loved by many Gymnastic fans very much.
I think many women in the world was attrackted to his good face and fine body in the Olympics. But I prefer his personality to his face and body so much.I admire his attitude about Gymnastics deeply.
“I don‘t want to perform like acrobatics of circus. Only controlling their own body means Gymnastics”he said at once.He thinks Gymnastics is artistic sports and his attention focuses on “performing beautifully”than ”getting gold medals“.After the all performances of High Bar, He said on Japanese TV interview with a little smile,“I ended up with a dissapointed miss, but I could give a satisfactry performance except it.
I‘m happy with this Olympics,I think.“
I believe he is a very artistic, ellegant and attractive man.So he is respected by many athletes(Kohei Uchimura and Fabian Hambuchen)!
hello, madison. i,m yko from japan. i,m glad to see this site and
know you are a fan of hiroyuki tomita.
i understand that you want a Japanese translater to know all about tomita. but i,m sorry to say that i can use internet only at the netcafe shop in japan. and writing in english is quite difficult for me.so Ican’t always access your homepage.iintroduced this homepage to japanese forum of tomita.i wish you will have a good cooperrator.
i want you to know some news about tomita. he is a leader of japan team. during olympics he and his teammates said to coahes,”let us treat you a dinner, please. This is our way of appreciation.”his proposition was expressing their appreciation to coaches who had cared of them.
he has a japanese virtue being kind and polite. i hear he isn‘t agressive person.and he didn’t express dissactifaction with low scores.he can accept the results which may be a fault. he is good inside and out for me!
on japanese massmedia, tomita doesn‘t determine my retirement. i hear he wants to take a rest for a long time, then he will decide his future course.
i hope tommy will come back! some of japanese girls sometimes call him “tommy”or “tomitan.”
You lucky person you. Man that would sure cheer up my B-Day because its on Sept. 11th D:
Hi,
I have translated the 2005 interview a couple of posts up. However, I am not a native Japanese, and am just around the intermediate level in my Japanese Language studies. This was the best I could translate, with help from the dictionary. Hence, please do feel free to edit if you spot any mistakes. I have posted this in the Cafe’s news bulletin as well. =)

(Interviewer)
Takahashi: Today, I would like to walk through with Tomita san, the early phases of his life. Yoroshiku onegaishimasu (no direct translation; roughly means “please help me” or “I look forward to working with you”).
Tomita san was born on 21 November 1980, 25 years old this year. I understand that you started gymnastics at the age of 8 years. Under the encouragement of your mother, you joined the Mac Gymnastics Club (I am not sure if this is the correct English translation for the name of the club). Do you recall how you were as a child at that time?
Tomita: I started playing with the horizontal (high) bar etc during break time when I was in kindergarten.
Takahashi: You were playing with the horizontal bar from kindergarten? You can already do the swings and turns from then?
Tomita: Yes.
Takashi: It seems like you were a very active child.
Tomita: That’s right. Once it is break time, I will usually be the first one to rush outside (outdoors).
Takahashi: Were you just as active in your Elementary and Junior High School days?
Tomita: Yes, I was.
Takahashi: As a child, what did you enjoy doing most?
Tomita: I like activities which involves body movement; ball games, horizontal bar, vaulting, etc. I did all of these.
Takahashi: Did you prefer the horizontal bar and vaults over ball games?
Tomita: No, I liked ball games too.
Takahashi: Such as soccer and baseball?
Tomita: That’s right.
Takahashi: Your Elder Brother plays baseball and your Younger Sister plays the volleyball right?
Tomita: Yes.
Takahashi: A family which likes sports.
Tomita: That’s right.
Takahashi: Does your family do sports together on the weekends?
Tomita: No. When I started gymnastics, I had to practice on Sundays too.
Takahashi: Other than your school, you are always going to Mac Gymnastics Club.
Tomita: That’s right.
Takahashi: Which means it would have been late by the time you returned home. Do you remember roughly what time did go home?
Tomita: The club activities ended after 9pm.
Takahashi: You went straight to the club after school, how did you take care of your dinner?
Tomita: After returning home, past 9pm.
Takahashi: You took your dinner after you returned home after 9pm?
Tomita: That’s right. After coming home, I will eat my dinner, bathe and after which sleep. That was roughly what it was like.
Takahashi: Well then, you did not watch much television?
Tomita: I do catch the television programs whenever I was able to.
Takahashi: Were there any TV programs which you liked?
Tomita: Anime, such as the series ¡°Dragonball¡±.
Takahashi: The Elementary school children nowadays play video games. There weren¡¯t really video games available during your time right?
Tomita: Video games, you are right, I don’t think I played much video games during my Elementary school days.
Takahashi: How about Junior High School?
Tomita: I did not have much time during Junior high, but I did play a little of video games.
Takashi: I guess gymnastics is really the main focus of your life.
Tomita: Yes, that’s right.
Takahashi: We do not hear much of children in kindergarten playing the horizontal bar, you must have started getting good at it since then. Surely, your teacher at that time would have commended you with “You are good!” etc.
Tomita: Well, the teacher did say that. I did not think much while playing with the horizontal bar, I did not know what as the meaning of being better. I was just very enthusiastic with the vault, as the level of the vault was gradually increased, I will stay on till the end.
Takahashi: I guess you were already very good since then. I believe during Elementary school, you devoted most of your time to gymnastics, weren’t there any other things you had wanted to do?
Tomita: Things which I had wanted to do… My Elder Brother played baseball; many of my friends played baseball too; hence I had wanted to play baseball. I had never thought of stopping gymnastics, I did think that I could do both gymnastics and baseball.
Takahashi: However, the conclusion was that these two cannot co-exist.
Tomita: Yes, unfortunately. The conclusion was harsh, I thought.
